IASON FP7 project launches Black Sea Region Workshop & Caravan events in Batumi, Georgia 30th & 31st October 2014

The IASON project consortium is happy to announce the launch of its second regional workshop and Caravan training event setting the focal point at the Black Sea Catchment. IASON Workshop 2 and Caravan Events will be held at the Radisson Blu hotel in Batumi, Georgia, on 30-31 October 2014. The events are co-organized by the EC FP7 IASON Project Consortium (hosted by Georgian partner GIS & RS Consulting Center GeoGraphic) in cooperation with the EC Cross Border Cooperation ILMM-BSE Project (co-hosted by Georgian partner NGO Civitas Georgica).

IASON Coordinator Prof. Patias at the ISPRS Technical Commission VII Symposium, 29 September – 2 October 2014, Istanbul, Turkey

IASON NEWSLETTER ISSUE 03 01-22The Mid-term Symposium of ISPRS Technical Commission VII “Thematic Processing, Modelling and Analysis of Remotely Sensed Data” took place in Istanbul, Turkey on 29 September & 2 October 2014 and was held at Istanbul Technical University. The overall purpose of the symposium was to bring together researchers, scientists and practitioners from all over the world, interested in the advances of remote sensing, computer vision, image analysis and related fields.

The symposium aimed to be a platform for sharing the results of research and development efforts In that direction IASON consortium members from Romania, launched a tutorial for young scientist and transferred practical exercises on authoring the Earth Science content based on the Virtual Meeting Place developed for the IASON project, and the eGLE and GreenLand platforms developed in both national and international remote sensing applications and helped in pinpointing worldwide advances in remote sensing theory, research, experiments, applications, and technology.

IASON coordinator Prof Patias of AUTH and Prof Altan of EKINOKS presented elements of the project and disseminated project results. Moreover a paper presenting IASON results was submitted at the proceedings of the Symposium and can be downloaded from the project website.

8th GEO European Projects Workshop, Athens, Greece, June 12-13, 2014

The European Commission is pleased to announce the 8th GEO European Projects Workshop (GEPW-8) which will take place in Athens, Greece, on 12 and 13 June, hosted by the Greek GEO Office - National Observatory of Athens and co-organized by the Mariolopoulos-Kanaginis Foundation for the Environmental Sciences.

The eighth of the annual series of GEO European Projects Workshops is intended to bring all those interested in and actively contributing to the Global Earth Observations System of Systems (GEOSS) from all over Europe together, in order to present their work and discuss how Europe can contribute to this international effort, especially in the wake of the launch of the new EU Framework Programme for Research, Horizon 2020, and renewal of the mandate of GEO for another 10 years through the endorsement of the 2014 Geneva Declaration.

29-30 May 2014 Research and Innovation in the service of Economy and society European Neighborhood and the Black Sea Region (RInES), Thessaloniki, Greece


IASON project was present at the Research and Innovation in the service of Economy and society European Neighbourhood and the Black Sea Region (RInES) conference, The overall objective of the RInES Conference was to highlight the important role of the International Cooperation / INCO for the EU by reinforcing the collaboration with the European Neighbourhood / ENP and Black Sea region countries within the framework of the research and innovation, exploiting its potential as an integral part of a comprehensive package of external action.

This was the first time that the European Neighbourhood and the Black Sea region countries worked together with the EU, towards a common approach on research and innovation issues on two sectors of high importance for the Societal challenges of the HORIZON 2020:

  • Sustainable Energy & Clean Technologies Applications, towards a Low/Zero Carbon Energy Future for the regions


  • Marine Research and the Maritime Strategy in Neighbourhood countries and the Black Sea region within the frame of sustainable management of ecosystems, marine bio-geo resources, fisheries and blue growth potential

RINES was organized by General Secretariat for Research and Technology, Center for Research& Technology Hellas, and HCMR.  RInES Conference was co-funded by the International Cooperation Programme of the 7th Framework Programme of Research and Technological Development. IASON joined the poster session and IASON consortium members Dr. Charalampos Georgiadis of AUTH and Kostas Smagas and Dr. Suzan Kholeif of GEO, actively informed participants on the project objectives
